Docs / Shield and unshield
Using Ordeo
Shield ORDEO into notes and unshield it back to a wallet
Shielding takes public ORDEO or ETH out of your wallet and puts it in a new note. Unshielding moves value from your notes to any address.
Shield
- 01
Open shield
In /app, choose shield and pick ORDEO or ETH.
- 02
Enter the amount
The app shows the shield fee and the value the note will hold.
- 03
Approve and confirm
For ORDEO, approve the pool once, then confirm the shield. The pool measures what it actually received, takes the fee and creates the note itself. Tokens that charge a fee on transfer are refused.
Unshield
- 01
Open unshield
In /app, choose unshield.
- 02
Enter amount and destination
Any address works. A fresh one is harder to link to you.
- 03
Prove and submit
The bundler submits your proof. The flat unshield fee and its fee come out of the amount leaving.
What the chain shows
| Action | Visible | Not visible |
|---|---|---|
| Shield | Your wallet and the amount | Who owns the new note |
| Unshield | Destination address and amount | The notes it came from and who owned them |
What can go wrong
- Easy to link. Shielding 1,234 ORDEO and unshielding 1,234 ORDEO an hour later links the two. Vary amounts and timing.
- Amount too small. An unshield must cover its flat fee and the bundler fee, or it is refused.
- No bundler. You can unshield from your own wallet, which then appears as the sender.
Until the contracts are deployed, the app runs in practice mode: each action is a signed message, no transaction is sent and balances are practice balances. The same screens go live once the contracts are deployed.
